Shri Chintamani Parshwnath Jain Shwetambar Mandir, Haridwar, Uttarkhand

Haridwar is a city of temples. Jain temple is one of them and the temple is beautifully carved and sculptured making it one of the beautiful Haridwar temples. The tirth came up in the 1990’s in the holy city of Haridwar, famous for its art design and the huge temple campus. The two-storied temple is made up of the yellow stones brought from Jaisalmer. Surrounded by lush Himalyan ranges, the temple is an attempt to recapture the sanctity of the Jain faith.

The main temple is on the first floor with a black idol of Shri Chintamani Parshwnath Bhagwan in Padmasan posture as the moolnayak. There are idols of Shri Parshv Yaksh and Mata Padmawati Devi on either side outside the garbh greh. On the ground floor, there is a idol of first tirthankar Shri Aadinath Bhagwan made from white marble stone. There is a separate small temple of Shri Ghantakaran Mahavir Ji on the right of the temple. Another separate temple on the left has huge charan-paduka’s (foot imprints) in white marble of Shri Aadinath Bhagwan, which has been replicated from those on Shatrunjay Tirth (under Raayan tree) in Palitana. A separate meditation hall has specially been constructed on the ground floor in a separate complex, which also has the bhojanshala and offices

The present arrangement facilitates accommodation of around 1000 pilgrims at a time. The boarding and lodging facilities are pretty good. The place is visited by tens of thousands of pilgrims from across the country every year.

      1. I am working in Census office and have analysed the population of Jains in India which is showing a declining trend.
Most worrisome indicators are : (1) decreasing number of daughters (2) More than 10% decrease in young jain population (0-24 years)
My only objective is to create awareness .
        Jai Jinendra
